IT"S BACK! and it is more epic than ever! The Sacred Land Legacy is returning to eBook and print as a trilogy! It has been expanded and I am re-issuing the series with its original titles. I discontinued all other Sacred Land books and all sacred land titles four months ago to rewrite and retool the series to my current standards. Book 1 is currently the only book finished enough to publish on Amazon. The other two will follow shortly.
After I get the Sacred Land Legacy re-issued, I will be re-writing, expanding, and re-issuing the Wielder Cycle too. Most importantly, I will be finishing the Wielder Cycle by releasing the third book in the trilogy, Wielder Master, for the first time!
There will be new books on the horizon. I have been working on some pen name books and I need to finish those, but I plan to add many more Mark E. Tyson books in the near future as well.
For a limited, yet indeterminable time, all of my eBook catalog will be on sale for 99 cents! Excluding the three Omnibus editions of course. I am also working on a box set for the entire Sacred Land Series. As far as writing goes, I am still working on the third and final book of the Wielder Cycle and the first book of the Shadow Legacy. I plan to have them out to you in the near future.
The title of this blog refers to the final book of the Sacred Land Legacy. I have been fighting with getting it the way I want it for several months now. I fretted it wasn't long enough, I fretted it wasn't spectacular enough, I fretted it didn't tie things up the way I wanted. So, Yesterday, I said enough! I turned it over to the editor. I assume there will be one more re-write when I get the manuscript back and I am not going to fret over it anymore. I am going to publish as soon as I have the corrections and final re-writes done. In fact, I am so confident with it now that I began writing another book today. Book 1 of the Shadow Legacy. (Don't worry. I haven't forgotten my promise to you, Jay F.)
For those of you who want Wielder: Master, it's coming too. I am on a writing roll right now and I plan to finish WM by the first half of February. (finish doesn't mean publish, it will still need to be edited and that requires scheduling time with my increasingly popular and therefore difficult to get quick editing time slots editor) But don't worry, I will be writing something else while I wait for a time slot. Actually, I plan to have a book a month for the foreseeable future! I am an active author again and it feels great!
If you have enjoyed my work with the sacred Land, you ain't seen nothing yet! I learned a lot from writing that series and with the Wielder Cycle. Lessons learned and mistakes that will not be repeated in future projects. I know it doesn't seem like it right now, but I can write a full novel in about half the time I used to. I know because I have three nearing completion as of this writing. I agonized over Crusade for the Sacred Land because by the time I got to the ending I wrote long ago, I didn't like it anymore and had to re-write it. I like it much better now!
Anyway, I am ready to tell you a little about the Shadow Legacy. It's the next series I have planned (and partially written). It concerns a MC named Thulen Cael who is a descendant of people who won the Great War between good and evil in the past. Only, unknown to him, his side was the evil side and his side left the losers in pretty terrible shape, while they lived in luxury with the best lands and protection. (of course he doesn't consider his people "evil")
Thulen is also a rare Enchanter, trained in the great magic university called the Arcanorum. He was in the midst of enchanting a sword for the king when the darn thing was stolen. Able to track his own enchantments, he and his warrior friend Vadis, go after the sword. Things go sideways from there.
Unlike the previous two series which were both coming of age style tales, this one is a tale of discovery complete with magic, divination by observing the behavior of cats, witches who can invade and manipulate dreams, Vampires (Mark Tyson Style vampires- you know I will put my own spin on them!) Traveling minstrels, games played to the death, and much, much more!
The first novel in each series is now live as an ebook at Barnes and Noble, Apple iBooks, Kobo, and is pending at Google play/books. Both books (Wielder: Apprentice, Dawn of the Sacred Land) are now available for Nook reading tablets and iPad as well as Kindle. In fact, they are available for most every reader or tablet manufactured.
These two books are the first of many that will slowly filter out to the other ebook platforms over the next two months as they drop out of their exclusive to Amazon contracts.
Remember, nothing will happen to them on Amazon except that they will no longer be available for Kindle Unlimited (Amazon's Subscription service)
However, I have decided to release all new releases to KDP select exclusive to Amazon for 3 months (at least) before they transition to the other ebook platforms so that people with the Kindle Unlimited may read them via the program. Of course, anyone can buy new releases at Amazon at the same time whether they are a member of the Kindle Unlimited subscription service or not. If you have any questions about new releases and Kindle Unlimited just send me a comment here and I will answer it for you.
If you have been looking for the final book of the Sacred Land Series, you may have thought I fell off the face of the Earth and took my final Sacred Land book with me! Well, you are almost right. I have been battling illness and hospital since September. I'm all better now, nothing really life threatening, I just had to get my mind and body back in sync.
The good news is that my time in convalescence was productive and I thought of some new ways to complete the final story of the Sacred Land. I rewrote much of it and parts of it is being edited at the moment. I feel I owe it to readers to have a good, really satifying ending and...well...endings are hard, especially satisfying ones!
The other good news is that I have outlined a few more novel series. Under my more family oriented author name, Mark E Tyson (my actual name) I have the Shadow Legacy series, the Mage War Series, and an un-named Steampunkish series. Under my pen name, Aiden Avery, I have few more adultish series planned.
I have begun to write the first novels in all of the series above but my main focus is still to get the Sacred Land wrapped up ASAP.
So here is my plan:
Priority one: Get Crusade for the Sacred Land published correctly and end the Sacred Land Legacy. IF you know someone who will enjoy the Sacred Land Legacy I have recently began releasing the series as three books instead of six. The first two books are available and are titled Dragons of Destiny (part one,) and Dragons of Discord (part two.) They comprise the first 4 books. The third book, Dragons of Divinity, will be released when I release book 6 and it will contain book 6.
Second, I will work on the books in the following series:
Mark E. Tyson:
3. Shattered Realm,
4. Shadows of Discord (the Shadow Legacy series)
I will also work on the Mage War Series
1. Gunpowder, Magic, and Lead,
2. Shoot First, Cast Spells Later,
3. Wizards, Weapons, and Witches. (un-named weird western fantasy)
3. Thief (The Light of Orsa series)
Now that I'm back, and writing full time, books should be coiming in a steady stream from now on!
I took some time to rework and refine the 6th and final book, Crusade for the Sacred Land. After the issue with the wrong file being uploaded I worked hard to get it done. I know I have some fans who can't wait to read it so I worked to get it out there. The final book in a series needs special care. Not only do most (or all) of the plot lines need to be tied up and resolved in a satisfactory manner, but the story must also still be entertaining so the reader doesn't just thumb through to see what happens to everyone. So, I have been taking my time to get it right.
There is another reason why I have taken my time. All of my ebooks are on Amazon exclusively (paperbacks can be found at iBooks, Barnes and Noble etc.) Like all people who have a product on Amazon, I depend on customer reviews to help sell my books. My books sell incredibly well and I get a lot of positive feedback via social media and email about how much people love them. I have even gotten emails from fans saying they are going to go give them a great review. which makes me really excited. So. I go to Amazon and no review ever posts and I realize they gave it 4 or 5 stars on goodreads, which is fine because readers are important there too! But, my books on Amazon have almost no reviews and it makes me kind of sad. I tell myself that I don't need them because I know I have a good audience and my books sell. Then I get a 1 star review like this one:
I've been looking for another fantasy series to read and I came across this one and decided to download the sample on my Kindle. I am so glad I didn't waste my money on the actual book. After reading a few pages into the second chapter I just couldn't go any further. Within the first two chapters there are 2 inconsistencies:
Inconsistency #1: Shey and the little girl Oria are taken by the Enforcers. One of the captains was apparently a friend of Shey's and he gave her a magical stone that transported Oria and herself to the Defenders outpost. The little girl asked her what happened and she explained that the captain was her friend and had a personal Lora Daine, a dragon stone. She explained that she used it to transport them to the Defenders outpost. They go inside and meet Enowene and she comments how Lyrrath found her to which Shey says "What was that?" and Enowene proceeded to explain that it was the Lora Daine that she used. Um, what? Didn't Shey just finish explaining to Oria what the stone was?
Inconsistency #2: Shey has to travel to the ruins of the temple. When she gets there she is startled to find another person there and admonishes him for "sneaking up on her". A few paragraphs later she makes a comment that she had asked Enowene to send him to meet her there. Ok, so if she KNEW he was going to be there, why was she startled when he showed up???
It's small things like this that bother me. I could see a small inconsistency in the middle of the book where there is the possibility that the author forgot a small detail but within the first two chapters? If the author can't keep track of things within the very beginning of the novel then I fail to see how he can keep track of things throughout.
End of review
So, I panicked a little and then went to the text. The passage for inconsistency #1 reads as follows:
“I see Lyrrath found you,” the woman said.
“What was that?” Shey asked, still pouring the dark, fragrant liquid into a small tin cup.
“The Lora Daine. You used the stone.”
“Aye.” She handed the stone over to the woman. “You will see Lyrrath gets it back, won’t you?”
The reviewer completely misread it. Shey is not asking what a dragon stone is! She is saying "huh" or "what" to Enowene and Enowene clarifies that since Shey used the Lora Daine (dragon stone) that Lyrrath must have found her. No inconsistency at all! Still I changed "What was that" to "What did you say" in the original text just to make certain it's clear.
AS far as inconsistency #2 Yes, Shey knew Gondrial was coming but she didn't know when he would show up. She is in a spooky place and looking at a grave when he suddenly speaks behind her and she is startled. Again, no inconsistency at all. It would be like you were in a cemetery and someone walked up behind you and said boo! It's really not that far of a leap to understand.
The moral of this story is that I got a little discouraged. I didn't know why exactly, I know it wasn't because I got a silly 1 star review. a simple look into the reviewers past reviews revealed that she rarely gives more than 1 star to any book. She is a chronic 1 star reviewer. It happens and we just move on, which I did.
Then it hit me why I was discouraged. The 1 star review was not the problem (everyone gets them they are no big deal) If an author can't take a 1 star review they may need to look into doing something else! Even when the 1 star review isn't accurate or fair (as the one above) authors trust that most readers can discern fact from fiction and see the truth. Sometimes fans will even reply to the reviewer and tell them they misread or something. So, again, the 1 star is no big deal.
The part that got me down is that the people who like and love my books do not often review my books. They left me to eat this ridiculous 1 star review, knocking my rating down. I know Amazon asks buyers to review products including books but too often people delete the email or ignore it leaving authors like me with little to counteract silly or inaccurate reviews. Several of my books have zero to 2 reviews. If I get a review like this on one of those books it will kill the rating and people might think the book is bad or something. I live in constant fear of that. I have asked for reviews inside all of my books and I have asked for reviews from my mailing list but rarely does it work. It seems only people who dislike a book feel a need to review it.
It's a cycle, I have to keep selling books to keep writing books. Reviews may or may not help sell books but bad reviews do tend to torpedo sales if they are the only review a potential buyer sees. So, I implore all of you to review all of your books (not just mine) and support your favorite authors. Don't skip the review! Don't let inaccurate or silly reviews be the only reviews on the author's book page. Especially if you enjoy reading that author. It does make a difference. Reviews are supposed to be for readers, so negative and positive reviews are suppose to help a potential buyer decide on the book. If you like an author or a book series then please speak up and review that author or series!
For me personally, If you hate my work, I welcome the bad review (sometimes I need the kick in the pants) but equally, if you like or even love my books give me a good review on Amazon. You don't have to type much. Just give it a star rating and say good book in the comments!
Recently, I was hospitalized. Coincidentally, I was hospitalized just as Crusade for the Sacred Land was to be released. And, of course, The wrong book file was released and I was helpless to resolve the situation. I have now been released from the hospital and I am working on the problem. I will get the correct book released ASAP. My hospital stay was not life threatening and I am okay. It was just one of those things.
